The product
How Shortsly works
Shortsly turns a script, a voiceover, or your own media into an editable short video. Shortsly's AI plans the scenes, creates the required visuals, places captions and sound effects, and returns a complete multi-track timeline.
The generated result is an editable video project rather than a locked video. You can move and trim scenes, rewrite captions, replace media, adjust timing, change backgrounds, and preview the result before export.
For the complete production sequence, follow the script-to-video guide.
Getting started
Start a project
Start with what you already have. Every option opens the same editor.
- Write a scriptPaste or write the narration, choose a voice, then generate an editable video.
- Upload a voiceoverUse a recording you already have. Uploaded audio does not include word timings.
- Reuse a voiceoverBring the audio, script, and word timings from an earlier project without generating the speech again.
- Start with mediaBuild from photos or clips first and add sound later. A script is not required.
Before generation
Add any photos, clips, saved AI avatars, or visual styles you want Shortsly to use. Shortsly shows the maximum credit estimate before generation starts.
If the narration still needs structure, start with the explainer-script guide.
Narration
Voice and captions
Choose a voice model
Voice previews are free. Settings apply to the next generation and do not change a voiceover that has already been created.
| Model | Best for | Available controls |
|---|---|---|
| Multilingual v2 | Reliable all-round narration | Speed, stability, similarity and style |
| Eleven v3 | More expressive delivery | Stability presets and delivery tags such as [whisper] |
| Flash v2.5 | Fast generation | Speed, stability, similarity and style |
| Turbo v2.5 | Legacy projects | Superseded by Flash v2.5 |
Synced captions
Word-highlight captions require a start and end time for every spoken word. Those timings are included when Shortsly generates the speech. Uploaded audio is not transcribed automatically, so its captions must be added and timed manually.
Reuse without generating again
Reusing a voiceover restores its audio, original script, and word timings. It costs no voice credits; a new video plan and any newly generated images are still charged.

How Shortsly plans a video
Shortsly reads the script or analyzes your media and returns a full timeline: scene count, clip timing, media placement, captions, and sound-effect timing. It can also create supporting images for objects or moments described by the script.
When nothing is selected in the editor, the right panel lets you rewrite the instructions and rebuild the timeline. A rebuild creates a new plan and may create new images, so it is charged as new work.
For factual projects, review the source-material checklist before importing files. The news-video production and explainer production show the process with complete examples.
Image styles
The built-in presets include cartoon-realistic, cartoon, anime, 3D, and sketch. Cartoon-realistic uses softer painterly shading to keep a real face recognisable.
Regeneration and backgrounds
- Regenerate one image without rebuilding the rest of the project.
- Remove a background or use chroma key with an eyedropper, tolerance, and softness controls.
- Replacing an image updates every timeline clip that points to it.
- Sound effects come from Shortsly's built-in sound library.
For the complete upload, keying, and reuse process, follow the green-screen video guide.
Timeline
Edit your video on the timeline
The editor keeps video, captions, voice, sound effects, and backgrounds on separate tracks. Select a clip to change its position, length, size, rotation, animation, or source media.
- Move, trim, duplicate, copy, paste, and delete scenes.
- Edit caption words and adjust their timing on the timeline.
- Move and trim sound effects independently from the video.
- Resize, rotate, and position visual elements directly in the preview.
- Change the project background or key a colour out of an uploaded image or clip.
Export
Export the finished video
Export runs in your browser using the device's own video encoder. Keep the project tab open and in front until it finishes; closing the page cancels the export and switching to another tab can slow it significantly.
Desktop exports use the full project dimensions, including 1080 × 1920 for 9:16. Mobile exports preserve the selected ratio and cap the long edge at 1280 px.
After export
The finished file is uploaded to the project and remains available from the projects list. If the upload fails after encoding, the completed video is offered as a local download instead.
Browser compatibility
Use a current Chrome, Edge, desktop Firefox, Samsung Internet, or Safari 26 and later. Older iOS Safari releases and Firefox on Android may not provide the codecs required for export. Generation and editing continue to work even when export is unavailable.
If an export fails
Check that every timeline clip still has its source file, keep the tab visible, and close other memory-heavy work before retrying. Exporting and retrying use no credits.
Usage
Credits and billing
The maximum estimated cost is shown before work starts. Only completed work is charged.
Credit prices
| Work | Unit | Price |
|---|---|---|
| AI video planning | Per video plan | 15 credits |
| Image generation or restyling | Per standard-size image | 20 credits |
| Voiceover | Per 100 script characters, rounded up | 5 credits |
| Image analysis | Per image analysed for placement | 3 credits |
| Video analysis | Per 10 seconds, rounded up | 10 credits |
| Add a custom voice | Per voice | 30 credits |
| Preview, editing and export | Runs on your device | Free |
Monthly allowances
| Plan | Monthly allowance | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 300 credits | Free |
| Creator | 2,000 credits | $24 |
| Pro | 4,500 credits | $49 |
| Pro | 6,500 credits | $69 |
| Pro | 9,500 credits | $99 |
Every plan includes the same creation and editing features. Paid plans export without a watermark. On paid plans, each monthly allowance is added to the balance, so unused credits roll over. Free accounts are topped up to 300 credits each month instead of accumulating another full allowance; a higher existing balance is not reduced. Prices exclude applicable taxes. Stripe calculates and adds tax at checkout.
Credit estimates and failed runs
Before generation, Shortsly temporarily reserves the highest estimated credit cost. When it finishes, only completed work is charged and the remainder is released. A failed run releases its unused credits automatically; completed items remain charged.
Manage a subscription
Upgrade from the Account page. Checkout and card storage are handled by Stripe. After subscribing, Manage billing opens Stripe's portal for plan changes, invoices, payment methods, and cancellation. Cancelling keeps the paid plan active until the current period ends.

Where processing happens
Scripts and image requests are processed by OpenAI. Speech is generated by ElevenLabs. Video encoding stays on your device; the completed file is then uploaded back to Shortsly so it remains attached to the project.
Where files are stored
Uploaded media, generated images, voiceovers, and finished exports are stored against your account rather than only in the browser. Clearing browser data does not remove a project. Deleting a project removes access and starts deletion of its media.
